Preventing Chlorine Damage - ANDI

Preventing Chlorine Damage

Who doesn't love the pool?

While swimming and tanning are both summer essentials, so is protecting your hair. Chlorine damage can be at an all-time high during the summer months, so here are some valuable tips to keep your hair as healthy and beautiful as possible.

Keep it Hydrated!

Before heading to the pool, wet your hair with clean water. This will help your hair absorb less chlorine as you swim. Additionally, applying a leave-in conditioner or coconut oil can create a protective barrier while you're swimming or after you've been in the water. Applying these an hour or two before you shower or before bed can also be beneficial.

Deep conditioning treatments can also help restore moisture and repair any damage caused by chlorine (links to our favorites are below!). After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh, clean water to remove any residual chlorine. You can also use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week to eliminate chlorine buildup as you spend your days soaking up the sun.

Turn That Heat Down!

Lastly, try to avoid using excessive heat when styling and maybe opt for natural hairstyles to reduce stress on your hair. That's why I love that I can find accessories from Shop Andi that help me keep my hair cute and styled while avoiding damage during the summer. My favorite poolside hair accessory has got to be our flat claw clips! Not only do they hold my hair all day, but I can comfortably tan in any position without having to take my hair out.

Let's stop chlorine damage in its tracks and keep our summer silky. Here's to healthy hair! :)
